IPL suspended as players across multiple teams test positive for COVID-19

The current season of IPL cricket has been suspended indefinitely after several cases of COVID-19 infection.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India, the BCCI, has said in a statement that the officials of the IPL and the BCCI have decided to postpone the current session of the IPL with immediate effect by holding an emergency meeting.

IPL chairman Brijesh Patel told news agency PTI that the league has been postponed indefinitely after several cases of corona infection were revealed within the bio bubble.

Former BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla has also confirmed the postponement of the current season of IPL from news agency ANI.

He also said that it has to be seen when it can be rescheduled. Earlier on Monday, Varun Chakraborty and Sandeep Warrier of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were found positive in the covid-19 Test, after which the match between KKR and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had to be postponed.

There were reports that all the remaining matches of the IPL will be held in Mumbai, but after Saha's positive in the covid-19 Test, the decision has been taken to suspend the IPL for the time being.

A total of 29 matches of IPL have been played so far. Apart from these three players, covid-19 Test report of Bowling Coach Laxmipathy Balaji from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Camp has also come positive.
