International Tolerance Day: Tolerance has become the most important aspect of today's society. Today, due to globalization, people from different cultures and environments are living together. In a country like India, where people of diverse cultures, religions, food, color, language, and lifestyle live, tolerance becomes an important aspect. Tolerance generates a society in which people feel valued and respected. Every person has their own room with their own ideas, beliefs, thoughts, and dreams.

Tolerance creates a peaceful environment in society. What to eat, what to wear, what to work, how to live, and whom to marry. Every person decides all these things according to his choice. There should be no social or political interference in this. The greatest tolerance is to allow every person to live life according to him.

Here in India for years, we all are living in brotherhood with each other. Respecting each other's festivals and food. When the foundation of India was laid, special care was taken in the constitution that every person could follow his culture and live in peace.

But in the last few years, there has been a debate about tolerance in India. Many people said that India is becoming intolerant. People of other religions and cultures are being attacked. People are being told that they will have to eat this, speak this, or else they will have to leave this country. The present government has been denying this and calling it a political conspiracy.

Why International Tolerance Day Celebrated?

Why did the idea of celebrating Tolerance Day come to the UN? Is society really becoming intolerant, or has society always discriminated against people from other environments.

The UN General Assembly in 1996 by resolution 51/95 invited the UN Member States to observe the International Day for Tolerance on 16 November. Various activities were organized that are directed towards both educational establishments and the public on a larger scale. It is the initiative of UNESCO in the 1993 UN General Assembly to be followed up on the United Nations Year for Tolerance, 1995 proclamation.

The UNESCO member states adopted the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance and Follow-up Plan of Action for the Year on 16 November 1995. According to UNESCO's 1995 Declaration of Principles on Tolerance "Tolerance is respect, acceptance, and appreciation of the rich diversity of our world's cultures, our forms of expression and ways of being human".

Why tolerance is important for society?

It is very important to have tolerance in society. It teaches a person to respect another person. Tolerance is always from both sides. It can never be one-sided. It explains the meaning of humanity.

If children are taught to respect people of other religions and cultures from the beginning, then the future can be better. Today we see that people from different states are coming and living in big cities. Some have come for the purpose of education and some for the purpose of the job.

They are sometimes harassed for looking or speaking differently. Even after being a citizen of the same country, they have to face discrimination. If there is tolerance among all, then such incidents will not come to the fore.
