Mumbai Police said that they close more than 15 such applications. Police say that these applications were inspired by an app called ‘Hotshots’, which was earlier allegedly owned by actor Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra.

The former manager of Raj Kundra Umesh Kamat has also been arrested by the Crime Branch in this case. Maharashtra Cyber ​​Crime Department sent a notice to big apps like Alt Balaji for showing explicit content. The Maharashtra Cyber ​​Police Department had registered a case against streaming service Alt Balaji and several production houses, directors, and actors for allegedly airing obscene material.

The police invoked sections of the Indian Penal Code, the IT Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act in the FIR against 13 streaming services of the time. When the investigation was halted for a while due to the pandemic, several other OTT platforms came to the fore.

Shooting obscene videos

According to the report published by The Quint, A small-time model turned producer and her husband were the brains behind this ‘porn OTT’ business model, both of whom were already part of the showbiz industry. According to the police, 40-year-old Yasmin Khan alias Rowa and her 36-year-old husband Dipankar Khasanvis alias Shyam Banerjee are said to be the brains behind this business.

Rowa was a small-time model and Shyam was a cinematographer in Bollywood. They both reportedly met at a film event, fell in love, and eventually got married. It was during the lockdown period that Rowa and Shyam thought of shooting obscene videos and uploading them on social media sites.

She was also approached by Yash Thakkur, a Singaporean at that time, who offered her a hefty price tag for a 30-minute porn video clip. Both the accused reportedly never met Yash Thakkur personally. All their communication and interactions were done through phone calls and emails.

He adds, “Rowa thought of starting her own OTT platform. Hence, she approached girls who wanted to make quick money during the lockdown. They shot the videos on high-end mobile phones and Rowa. who would edit them and then post them on an OTT platform called HotHit.

They made porn videos available on platforms like Fliz Movies and Nuefliks. The servers of these platforms are said to be in Singapore,” says Inspector Dheeraj Kohli, property cell of Mumbai Crime Branch.

These videos will be promoted on various social media platforms including Instagram and Facebook. With minimal cost to shoot each episode, it proved to be a highly profitable venture.
