Indian hockey team creates history by winning bronze medal

Ground Report | New Delhi: Indian hockey team creates history; The Indian men's hockey team has created history by winning a medal in the Olympics after 41 years. The Indian team defeated Germany 5-4 in the Tokyo Olympics to win the bronze medal. India won the last gold medal in Olympic hockey in 1980 in Moscow. 

Since then, India was waiting for a medal in hockey, which was ended by the current hockey team. India maintained their lead throughout the match after being a bit behind at the start of the match. In this exciting match between the two teams, till the end, India won by defending the best.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tweeted congratulating the team. PM Modi wrote, "Historic! A day that will be etched in the memory of every Indian. Congratulations to our men's hockey team for bringing home the bronze medal. This achievement has given enthusiasm to the entire country, especially our youth. India is proud of its hockey team."

In the first quarter, Germany took the lead over India by scoring a goal and India were left empty handed but after that India made a great comeback. India changed its strategy and managed to stop Germany's aggressive game.

In the second quarter, Simranjit Singh raised India's hopes by scoring a goal and made a comeback in the match. But, Germany again raised the challenge in front of India by scoring two goals. But the Indian team also continued its efforts and managed to capitalize on the opportunities.

Hardik Singh and Harmanpreet Singh's goal in the penalty corner before half time changed the face of the match and the match reached 3-3. How important this match was for both the teams was visible throughout the game. A total of six goals were scored in the first half.

At the start of the next half, India dominated the match and Rupinder Pal Singh converted a penalty stroke into a goal. Two minutes later, Simranjit Singh scored his second goal to give India a 5-3 lead with a wide margin. (Indian hockey team creates)

On the other hand, Germany's efforts also continued but the team failed to score in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Germany reduced India's lead and converted a penalty corner to bring the match to 5-4.

But, Germany's team could not score any goal in the remaining time. During this, Indian player Sumit was also injured and due to some debate, the match was stopped in the middle. After this, Germany got opportunities for penalty corners twice but India's goalkeeper Sreejesh stopped them and ensured India's historic victory.
