India vs England: Joe Root's first double century against India

England captain Joe Root has scored a double century in the Chennai Test. This is his first double century in Test cricket against India. However, he has now scored five double centuries in his career.

On the second day of the Chennai Test, England captain Joe Root scored an unbeaten 206, England scored 450 runs for four wickets in the first innings of the first Test, against the hosts India for 145 overs on the second day of the match.

Joe Root's five double centuries

With 20 centuries in Test cricket, four double centuries of the route have been made against the teams of the Indian subcontinent. He scored the first double century of his career against Sri Lanka in 2014 (unbeaten 200 runs) against Sri Lanka.

At the same time, the second double century was made against Pakistan (254) in 2016 at Old Trafford. This is also his best innings ever in Test cricket. His third double century was scored against New Zealand (226). In January this year, he once again played an innings of 228 runs against Sri Lanka on his own soil. This was his fourth double century.

On the second day of the Chennai Test, England could take only one wicket in the first innings. When captain Joe Root and Ben Stokes added 124 runs for the fourth wicket, Shahbaz Nadeem, playing only the second Test of his career, took the first wicket in this Test by getting Ben Stokes caught by Pujara for a score of 82 runs.
