India-China activities intensified along the Line of Actual Control

Ground Report | New Delhi: India-China activities; India and China have intensified their work on several infrastructure development projects along the Line of Actual Control. According to the report of the Telegraph, roads, bridges, and tunnels are being constructed along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh amid the ongoing dispute between the two sides.

In the month of May last year, the border dispute between the two countries took a serious form. But after that, military and diplomatic level talks were also held between the two countries to reduce this dispute. So far 12 rounds of military-level talks have been held.

A security official working for the Home Ministry said that the situation in Ladakh is changing rapidly. "The skirmish between the soldiers of the two countries in Ladakh has forced us to rethink our border strategy with China. We have accelerated the work of infrastructure development projects in the border areas. This is because This has been done so as to respond to Chinese incursions into Indian territories."

Another official said one of the objectives of speeding up infrastructure development projects is to anticipate infiltration and face-to-face skirmishes and ensure better deployment of troops. "They are carrying out construction work not only on the remaining friction points but also at the points from where the armies of both the countries have been displaced so far," the official said.

Buffer zone

There has been a "partial" dissolution from the Galwan Valley, Pangong Lake, and Gogra, creating a demilitarized "buffer zone" with a few kilometers retreat by China, while still remaining within the India-claim lines.

Military veterans have questioned the government's "concessions" in agreeing to create buffer zones, saying such areas within India-claimed territories mean loss of territory for the Indian Army. The border standoff continues at Hot Springs and Depsang Plains. The Chinese are said to have penetrated 18 km inside the India-claimed lines in the Depsang Plains.

Ongoing development program

The Border Roads Organisation, an Indian Ministry of Defence organization, is entrusted with the construction and maintenance of border roads, advanced landing grounds, tunnels, and bridges. "The main objective behind speeding up the infrastructure development programs is to ensure faster deployment and better maintenance of border posts," the official said.

He said that in the past, poor infrastructure on the Indian border came in the way of countering the threat from China, which has better roads and infrastructure. "The ongoing infrastructure development program will strengthen our preparedness to counter any such threat," the official said.
