Radhika Bansal, Ground Report:

India reported 9,887 new coronavirus cases, a single one-day spike so far, government data shows. It also witnessed the highest single-day death toll in the COVID – 19 pandemics so far, with 295 fatalities reported on Friday. India is now in the 6th position in the worst-hit countries in the world by overtaking Italy. India has a total of 2,36,117 cases till Friday whereas Italy has 2,34,531 cases.

We can see a drastic rise in the coronavirus positive cases since the lockdown has been eased. Now COVID has started hitting the villages and small towns in India which were safe during the period of Lockdown.

Maharashtra has the highest number of total confirmed cases, active cases, recoveries, and deaths. Delhi is in the second place in terms of active cases, though it is third after Tamil Nadu in terms of total cases. Gujarat is ranked second for fatalities, followed by Delhi at the third place.

Though Mumbai and Delhi might seem to be worst off with the highest number of COVID cases and deaths each day, Ahmedabad with less than half the population of these metros has the highest deaths per million population in the country. It also has the highest case fatality rate (CFR) – number of deaths per 100 cases – among the nine megapolises with populations of over 5 million. (Source – TOI)

Among various states, Uttar Pradesh recorded its biggest single-day jump of 496 COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking its tally to 9,733, while 12 more people died from the disease to take the count to 257.

Even after all the precautions taken by the government and the citizens, the cases are rising at the mega rate. There are several loopholes in the decisions taken by the government which could be a mega reason in this increment of the corona cases.
