Ground Report | New Delhi: Income tax raid on Newsclick; The Income Tax Department (IT) has raided the offices of two media portals- Newsclick and Newslaundry. The portal's office in South Delhi was raided.

According to news agency PTI, the department called it a 'survey operation' and said that this is being done to verify the tax payment details and remittances made by the organization. Officials said that the tax officials are covering the business premises of both the portals.

Income tax raid on Newsclick

At the same time, NewsClick sources told The Wire that the phones of all the employees present in the office were switched off and those working from home were unable to contact their colleagues in the office. For this reason, it is not immediately clear why the raids are being conducted.

According to a Newslaundry employee in the office, "only one Newslaundry office has been raided so far." The man told The Wire that the news organization's "financial records are being checked".

According to an employee of Newslaundry present in the office, "Around 6-7 people from Income Tax Department reached the office around 12 noon. So far only one office of Newslaundry has been raided." The employee told The Wire that the company's "financial records are being examined."

Newsclick was also raided in February

In February this year, the ED raided the houses of Newsclick and its editors. It was said from the ED that it was related to a case of red money laundering.

The portal and its editors then approached the Delhi High Court and got interim relief in the matter, which is still on.
