A case of alleged gang rape with a minor girl has come to light in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. As soon as the matter came to the fore, there was uproar and political rhetoric started.
This incident happened on May 28 near Insomnia Pub on Jubilee Hills. The accused are students from classes 11 and 12 and belong to "politically influential" families, police say. The son of an MLA is believed to be part of the group, but police say he may not have been involved in the gang rape.
This comes after police confirmed the involvement of the son of an MLA in the rape case. According to the police, all the accused in the case are minors, including the legislator's son. However, MLA's family has now claimed that the accused got out of the car and was sitting in a cafe when the alleged crime occurred, the sources said.
The victim's father has lodged a complaint about the incident with the police. As per the father, his daughter had gone to the Amnesia and Insomnia pub on the afternoon of May 28. They put the girl in a red Benz car numbered TS 09 FL 6460 and were about to drop her home. Some other people also met him at Innova.
According to the father's complaint, his daughter had gone to a party at the pub on the afternoon of May 28. Around 5:30 p.m., some boys took her away in a red Mercedes numbered TS09 FL6460. Along with this, some guys arrived in an Innova with temporary registration.
The father has also stated in the complaint that these boys also mistreated and assaulted her daughter, for which she suffered minor injuries to her neck. At that time, the girl was in a state of deep shock and she could not tell the exact details of what happened.
According to the complaint, when the girl came home, she asked about the injuries on her neck. Then the girl told that some people have raped her. The girl is in shock since then and is unable to tell what actually happened.
A case has been registered in this case under sections 354, 323 of IPC and sections 9 and 10 of the POCSO Act. The Benz car mentioned in the complaint is in police custody but the Innova has not been found.
The girl told the police, "I had gone to the pub at 5:30 pm. Coming back, I returned with those boys because they had said that they would drop me home. By then it was getting dark and they took me to some dark place.
Political controversy has also started on this matter. BJP alleges that due to the connection of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders in this case, efforts are being made to lighten the matter and save the accused.
BJP MLA Raghunandan Rao said in a press conference that party leaders would stage a sit-in in front of Jubilee Hills police station.
BJP Telangana President Bandi Sanjay issued a press release alleging, "Leaders of AIMIM and TRS are involved in this. The criminals should be caught immediately and punished severely. The accused were not caught for five days. You are a monster, not a human. Have the names of the accused been registered in the FIR? Why do you have CCTV cameras? TRS and AIMIM leaders can do anything in the state.
KT Rama Rao, a minister in the state government and son of Chief Minister KCR, has expressed grief and anger over the matter by tweeting.
He said, "I am shocked and angry with the incident of rape of a minor. I request the State Home Minister, Telangana DGP and Commissioner Hyderabad City to act immediately and take strong steps. Please don't spare anyone involved regardless of status or reach. In this case, it is also being said that two people have been arrested but the police have not confirmed it.
In 20219, a 27-year-old veterinarian disappears from the Shamshabad toll plaza, near Hyderabad. The four defendants allegedly raped and killed her. After that, the defendants allegedly carried her body to a bridge under construction a few miles away and set it on fire.
The four accused, Mohammed Arif, Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu, Jolu Shiva and Jolu Naveen, were arrested for gang rape and murder of a veterinary doctor in November 2019. On December 6, 2019, the Telangana police said that the four defendants were killed in a find.
The accused had been shot dead by Hyderabad police in an encounter on NH-44 near Hyderabad, where investigating officers took them to recreate the crime scene. The police had said that they had shot the defendants in self-defence as they had snatched up their weapons and were trying to escape.
