The brutal murder of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal on Tuesday has shooked the whole country. The killers also recorded the act on mobile phones and later posted the video on social media. Two accused, identified as Mohammad Riyaz Attari and Ghaus Muhammad, were arrested from Rajasthan's Rajsamand area late Tuesday evening.

The incident led to sporadic incidents of violence in Udaipur following which a curfew was imposed in seven police station areas of the city. The Rajasthan government suspended internet services in all 33 districts of the state and also imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 for a month.

After the murder, the killers made a video in which both the attackers confessed that they had killed the tailor Kanhaiyal Lal. In this video, both have also claimed that this murder is the revenge for former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's controversial remark on Prophet Mohammad.

Director-General of Police Mohan Lal Lathar said that the incident happened at 3.30 pm and the police took quick action and arrested the accused within four hours. ADG Law and Order Hawasingh Ghumaria said that it was only after the murder that they came to know that they came out of the bike. Rajsamand police got this information. After this, he was captured by siege in the Bhima area.

He told, "After committing the murder, they rode on a bike and left on Rajsamand Wali Road. But information about his bike was found. After which the police of Rajsamand blocked them and caught them.

A case has been registered against the accused under various sections of the IPC. SIT has been formed under the direction of SOG, ADG Ashok Rathod to investigate the matter.

Director-General of Police M.L. Lather told that the accused had fled after committing the murder but the police caught them in a very professional manner. He told that the Rajasthan Police is taking action on this matter considering the Act of Terror.

Director-General of Police said that on June 10, a person had lodged a case against Kanhaiyalal at Dhanmondi police station. On the lines of this complaint, Kanhaiyalal was arrested on June 11. He got bail on the 12th. After this, on June 15, Kanhaiya Lal lodged a complaint that he was feeling danger to life and property.

  • One of the accused, Mohammad Rias Ansari, was in contact with Pakistan-based terror groups. Sources in the police and the Special Investigation Team set up by the Ashok Gehlot government said that before killing Kanhaiya Lal, he had put forward videos of ISIS.
  • AS per reports, Riyaz Ansari was in touch with a Pakistan-based terrorist organization named Dawat-e-Islam. The second accused has gone to Nepal twice and was in contact with some terror groups. Sources said that he also had relations in Dubai.
  • Riyaz was waiting for the last one week for Kanhaiya Lal to open his shop. On June 17, he made a video in which he said that after an "act" he would make his video go viral. Sources said that he had called upon other people to join in as well.
  • Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tweeted that preliminary investigation has revealed that the murder was done to spread terror and the killers had links with other countries. He said that the case has been registered under the stringent provisions of UAPA.
