The incident on Saturday at Srinivasapura in Kolar district, the latest in a series of communal attacks on Christians in the state, took place just a day before the start of the winter session of the Karnataka Assembly where an anti-conversion bill is expected to be laid on the table.

Police said members of right-wing groups attacked four people from the Christian community, who had come to a rented accommodation in Srinivasapura to discuss a campaign to distribute religious books. But they were reportedly stopped by members of right-wing groups, who first started questioning them, and then took away the religious books before burning.

However, an official also told NDTV on the condition of anonymity that they have warned the Christian community not to "create any communal tension by doing door-to-door campaigning".

He further said that both the sides have settled the matter peacefully.

Reportedly, this is the 38th attack on religious minorities in Karnataka in the last 12 months.

Earlier, In Madhya Pradesh, a mob has attacked a missionary school, accusing it of proselytizing, breaking into the school, throwing stones, vandalizing it, threatening students, teachers, and other staff.

St Joseph’s School was attacked by a mob of about 500 people alleging the alleged conversion of eight children. It is alleged that the attackers belonged to organizations like Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal. Four people have been arrested in this case. At the time when the school was attacked, the 12th examination was going on there.

According to a recent report titled “Attack on Christians in India”, in the first nine months of 2021, over 300 attacks on Christians were documented from 21 states.
