Earlier after India lost to Argentina in the women’s hockey semi-final at the Tokyo Olympics, two upper-caste men started circling Vandana Kataria house in Haridwar Roshnabad village. Upper caste people circled around Vandana’s house and called out the family members saying that the team lost because it had “too many Dalit players”.
Naturally humiliating the family of the talented Indian forward who became the first Indian woman to score a hat-trick at the Tokyo Olympics in her crucial Group A pool match against South Africa, Vandana’s brother Shekhar told TOI, “We are upset after the loss. But the team went down fighting, we were proud of that.” (Hockey player Vandana Kataria)
