Covid-19 cases are rising again in Madhya Pradesh. Indore has reported the highest number. Four new cases were confirmed in the city over the last three days. This spike has prompted the health department to step up monitoring and testing.

Ujjain has also reported one active case, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to five. Doctors believe the JN.1 variant is behind the rise. It spreads fast but usually causes mild illness. Health experts advise people to stay alert and follow basic precautions, though there's no need for panic.
COVID testing is still slow in many areas. In Bhopal, government hospitals like JP Hospital and Hamidia Hospital are waiting for orders to start testing. Ujjain is facing the same delay. Genome testing is also running behind. A ₹5 crore genome sequencing machine at the State Virology Lab in Bhopal hasn’t been used yet.
Only Bhopal and Indore have received genome sequencing machines. The government had planned labs in five cities—Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Rewa—after the second wave. So far, the other cities are still waiting.
AIIMS Bhopal has taken steps to prepare. It has formed a special COVID task force. The hospital has opened a COVID ward with six isolation beds and an ICU. Testing is going on regularly there.

COVID-19 situation across India
India has crossed the 1,000 mark in active COVID-19 cases. Kerala has reported the most cases, followed by Maharashtra with over 200 active infections. The Health Department at the national level has said that there is no need to panic, but people should remain cautious.
In Chhattisgarh, the situation is developing. Raipur has reported a new COVID-19 patient who was admitted with cold and cough. In Durg district, a 59-year-old woman tested positive. She had no recent travel history, but a cook who visited her home came from outside the state. She is now being treated at Sparsh Hospital in Bhilai. Health officials are investigating and tracing all close contacts.
In other parts of the country, genome sequencing and testing are also slow. Most states are still waiting for updated guidelines. The spread of the JN.1 variant remains the key concern due to its rapid transmission.
