The Western Disturbance is a trough in westerly winds at mid-levels that causes changes in the weather over the western Himalayan areas and the surrounding plains. It is expected to be active from February 26 to March 4, with the peak intensity on March 2 and 3.

Due to the Western Disturbance, light rain and snowfall may occur in different parts of the western Himalayan areas on February 26 and 27. Today, thunderstorms, rain and snowfall have been predicted in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad and different parts of Himachal. Rainfall ranging from 0.1 mm to 15.5 mm is expected in these parts.

Along with the Western Disturbance, there is a possibility of heavy moisture coming from the Arabian Sea to North-West India during March 1 to 3. During the same period, there may be heavy rain in the western Himalayan areas and snowfall in the higher reaches, where rainfall may range from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm.

The Western Disturbance will also affect the weather in other parts of the country, where a trough is continuing in the westerly winds at the middle levels. Due to this, light to moderate rain and snowfall may occur in some parts of Arunachal Pradesh during the next six days. Rainfall ranging from 15.6 mm to 64.4 mm is expected in Arunachal.

At the same time, during February 28 and 29, light to moderate rain is expected in Assam and Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Rainfall in these states may range from 15.6 mm to 64.4 mm.

Another trough at lower levels continues from Vidarbha to North Kerala via Marathwada and Karnataka and it is active as a trough in westerly winds at middle levels. Due to this, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in Chhattisgarh, Marathwada and Vidarbha on February 26 and 27. There are chances of showers with winds speed of 30 to 40 km per hour in Telangana today and Bihar on February 27.

The Meteorological Department has also warned of hailstorm along with stormy winds in Jharkhand on February 27 and parts of East Madhya Pradesh during February 26 to 28. There are chances of hailstorm in Western Madhya Pradesh on February 27, Vidarbha on February 26 and 27 and Chhattisgarh on February 26.

The minimum temperature in Northeast India is expected to increase by two to three degrees Celsius during the next four to five days. However, there is no possibility of any change in the minimum temperature in the rest of the country during the next five days.

Today, hot and humid weather is expected to continue over Rayalaseema, Kerala and Tamil Nadu on February 26 and 27. Yesterday, Amritsar in Punjab recorded a minimum temperature of 6.0 degrees Celsius in the plains of the country. The maximum temperature recorded at Anantapur in Rayalaseema was 37.4 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has also issued a warning to fishermen not to go to the Comorin area and the adjacent Gulf of Mannar for fishing or any kind of business-related work. The storm winds blowing at a speed of 40 to 45 km per hour in these areas are expected to intensify further to a gusty speed of 55 km per hour.
