After this, Lukman was put back into the truck and the cow vigilantes then took him to Gurugram’s Badshahpur Village where he was beaten up again. The police reached the spot, but the group took over the police as well. Later Lukman was admitted to the hospital and a complaint was filed. The video of the incident surfaced on the internet, wherein the attackers are visible. According to the Gurugram Police PRO Subhash Boken, Pradeep Yadav, a 26-year-old resident of Rajeev Nagar has been arrested in view of the assault. However, according to the police, he doesn’t seem to be linked to any such groups. The police also sent the meat for testing. Later, the owner of the vehicles cleared that the meat was of buffalo and Lukman has been in this business for 50 years.

Such incidents of mob lynching and killing in the name of ‘cow protection’ have seen a rise in the country. These make us remember of any such happening that took place in the past. For example, the 2015 Dadri mob lynching case. Wherein, a group of villagers attacked and killed 52-year-old Mohammed Akhlaq on the suspicion of cow slaughter.

Similarly, in 2017, a 19-year-old teen named Junaid was assaulted and killed in a train. Herein, a group accused him of carrying beef in his bag and what followed was a three-hour-long beating and abuses. Later, Junaid succumbed to the injuries and died.
