Govt issues last warning notice to Twitter to comply with IT rules

Ground Report | New Delhi: The government has given a 'last warning' to the microblogging platform Twitter regarding the new IT rules. The government on Saturday gave Twitter the last chance to appoint an Indian official. Along with this, the government has also made it clear that if this is not done, the company should be ready for the 'consequences'. 

The dispute between the Center and Twitter has been going on for a long time. Today, the company had removed the Blue Tick badge of the Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu. However, later it was also restored.

The government said, 'Final notice is being given to Twitter to immediately comply with the rules. Failure to do so will result in cancellation of exemption under Section 79 of the IT Act 2000 and Twitter will be liable to penalties as per the IT Act and other laws. Even before this, the government has asked the company to share the information and appointment of the Indian officer. At the same time, there was news that many companies like Google, Facebook have given information to the government.

Twitter on Saturday removed the blue tick badge from the personal account of Vice President Naidu. It was being said that the company had taken this step due to the account being inactive for 6 months. After this action taken by the company, once again the leaders had objected to it. A few days ago, Twitter had described the tweets made by some BJP leaders as 'manipulated'.

Apart from the Vice President, Twitter has also removed the blue tick from the account of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. There has been a strong objection from the union on this matter. A spokesperson of the Sangh has said that this was not a good move on the part of Twitter. It is being said that Bhagwat has more than 2 lakh followers on Twitter and has not tweeted any since joining the platform. 

The Indian Express quoted sources as saying that Bhagwat's account is inactive because Sangh's communication system is different and statements are issued through these channels only.
