Ground Report | New Delhi: Kannada, the language of the majority population in the southern state of Karnataka, was on Thursday described by search engine Google as 'India's ugliest language'. The Kannada speakers were so outraged that the state government even issued a legal notice to Google. However, Google later apologized for the "mistake."

Google's blatant mistake has drawn condemnation from all quarters. In Karnataka, which is ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party, all political parties have risen above party lines to condemn the US technology company.

Karnataka Minister for Counter and Culture Aravind Limbavali said a legal notice would be sent to Google to tarnish the image of the beautiful language. "The Kannada language has a proud history of its own," he said. It has existed for more than two and a half thousand years. This language has been a source of pride for the Kannada people for centuries. "
