A population is a group of comparable organisms from the same species that live in the same area at the same time.
This specific area is known as its habitat.
Populations of plants and animals in the ecosystem do not function independently. They are always influencing each other and organizing themselves into communities and have a functional relationship with their external environment such as a pride of lions, a herd of elephants, a school of fish, a flock of sheep etc.
