A bench of Justice SS Shinde and Justice Manish Patale also accepted the Maharashtra government's statement that investigations against Republic TV, other employees of ARG Outlier Media and other television channels would be completed in 12 weeks.

The court is hearing a number of petitions from Goswami and ARG Media seeking several reliefs in the case.

The petitioners had claimed that the crime branch of the Mumbai police did not have any evidence against them but they were dragging the investigation by taking their names as suspects in the charge sheet.

In the hearing held on Monday, the High Court told the police that it could not investigate in any case for months without naming anyone.

The court said that considering the facts available in the record, the police have nothing concrete against Goswami in the case.

The bench said, "If you find something during the investigation and you want to take forceful action against the petitioner, then you have to give notice to Goswami 72 hours in advance. The court will again hear the arguments on 28 June.
