Ground Report | New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir gets death threats; Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and former cricketer Gautam Gambhir have approached Delhi Police alleging that he has received death threats from 'ISIS Kashmir'.

DCP, Central, Shweta Chauhan told ANI that BJP MP from East Delhi constituency Gautam Gambhir has approached Delhi Police alleging that he has received death threats from 'ISIS Kashmir'.

In a letter to Delhi's Central DCP, Gambhir said that he has received a threatening email from the handle of 'ISIS Kashmir', which read, 'We are going to kill you and your family. The cricketer-turned-politician requested the Delhi Police to provide adequate security and register an FIR in the matter.

Security has been beefed up outside his house after receiving the mail. The cricketer-turned-politician is often in the news for his impeccable opinion. He has been found to express his opinion on every serious issue.

This is not the first time Gambhir has received death threats. Earlier in December 2019, the BJP leader had approached the Delhi Police, alleging that he was receiving threatening calls from an international number. He had also written to the Deputy Commissioners of Shahdara and Central districts about the complaints and requested better security arrangements.

Gautam Gambhir recently criticized Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu for calling Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan his 'big brother'. While interacting with the CEO of the Kartarpur project, Punjab Congress President Sidhu had courted controversy after calling Imran Khan his 'elder brother' and said that he has a lot of love for the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Gautam Gambhir was elected as a Lok Sabha MP from East Delhi on a BJP ticket in 2019. He played for India at international level for 15 years, before announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2018.
