Gallantry award-winning Delhi Police Sub Inspector arrested for extortion

Delhi Police arrested one of its sub-inspectors for demanding a ransom of Rs 2 crore from a builder.  Giving this information, DCP South Atul Thakur said that Sub Inspector Rajbir Singh was posted in the police control room in the South-West zone when he planned this ransom.

Police said that an FIR was registered, according to which a real estate businessman living in Hauz Khas was called and asked for extortion on June 28. The caller had described himself as a gangster black. The caller had demanded Rs 2 crore and threatened to kill the entire family if not given.

When the police started investigating the case, it came to know that the SIM and mobile used in the phone call was snatched from Rohtak, Haryana on June 27. Although that handset was not used to make calls, rather SIM was used by putting it in another handset.

The handsets were snatched by people named Mukesh and Sawan. Both are residents of Pankaj Garden in Delhi. Mukesh gave that handset to Pramod alias Kala of Haryana. Due to which a ransom call was made from Bhiwadi in Rajasthan.

After this, when Mukesh and Sawan were arrested, it was found that Pramod uses three phones. After checking his numbers, it was found that he was in constant contact with Delhi Police Sub Inspector Rajbir Singh.

The Sub Inspector was aware of the complainant and informed Pramod alias Kala. Meanwhile, Rajbir Singh also called the builder on July 14 and wanted to talk about the ransom. Meanwhile, Pramod was arrested by the police and he disclosed the name of Rajbir Singh, stating that the builder's details were provided to him by the Sub Inspector and asked for ransom.

The DCP said that Rajbir turned out to be the mastermind of the whole case and he was arrested and sent to judicial custody.

When Rajbir was posted in the PCR unit, he received the gallantry award for bravery. Now, apart from dismissing them from the police service, their medal is also being considered. The complainant suspected Singh’s role after the ASI called him and tried to talk to him about the extortion call on July 14, the police said. Meanwhile, Parmod was arrested and he disclosed that Singh had provided the number of the complainant and told him to make the extortion call.
