Ground Report | New Delhi: Enforcement Directorate ED has attached assets worth Rs 1.77 crore of journalist Rana Ayub in a money laundering case. The ED has taken this action after the FIR was registered in Indirapuram, Uttar Pradesh.

In the FIR lodged against Rana Ayub at the Indirapuram police station in Ghaziabad, it was alleged that he illegally took money from the general public in the name of charity. An FIR was registered on 28 August 2021 on the complaint of a person named Vikas Sankrityayan.

According to news agency ANI, an ED official has told that Rana Ayyub allegedly did not use the donation received for three operations. The officer also alleged that Rana Ayyub allegedly used some part of the donation for personal expenses.

The FIR alleges that Ayub raised crores of rupees for three campaigns through the online crowdfunding platform Keto. One of these campaigns was to collect funds for slum dwellers and farmers during April-May 2020.

After this, during June-September 2020, a campaign was launched for relief work in Assam, Bihar and Maharashtra and then during May-June 2021, money was collected in the name of helping the corona affected people.

According to the ED, Rana Ayub recovered a total of Rs 2 crore 69 lakh 44 thousand 680 on keto. This amount came into the bank accounts of his sister and father. Of this, more than Rs 72 lakh went to Rana Ayub's account.

The police had registered a case against Rana on the complaint of Vikas Sankrityayan, founder of an NGO named 'Hindu IT Cell' and a resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad. Rana Ayub writes a regular column in the American newspaper Washington Post.

He is considered a critic of the Modi government. Rana Ayyub has denied these allegations and said that the government is putting agencies behind him because of his journalism. But she will continue to speak the truth.

Rana Ayyub has written by tweeting that when the present government engages all agencies to answer a journalist against his journalism, then how will a journalist remain. He has further written – By continuing to speak the truth.
