Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was on Friday admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after he complained of breathlessness and weakness. While the doctors are yet to say anything, reports suggest his condition is critical and is in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“He is in the ICU under observation. A team of doctors including endocrinologists, cardiologists and nephrologists is monitoring his condition,” one of the sources told PTI. In a medical bulleting issued by the AIIMS, doctors said, he is “haemodynamically stable”.
Jaitley had previously refrained from contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha election citing health conditions. He was earlier admitted to AIIMS two months ago to undergo tests and treatment for an undisclosed illness and was discharged on May 23. Earlier this year in January, he had unexpectedly flown to the US for a medical checkup relating to his kidney ailment
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah along with Speaker Om Birla reached AIIMS to meet the former cabinet minister.
In September 2014, he underwent bariatric surgery to correct the weight he had gained because of a long-standing diabetic condition. During his treatment in the US, Piyush Goyal was vested with the additional responsibility of the Finance Ministry and presented the supplementary budget, 2019.
