Former CBI director Ashwani Kumar commits suicide at Shimla home

Former Governor Ashwani Kumar has committed suicide in his house in Shimla. Kumar has also been the head of DGP and CBI. Shimla SP Mohit Chawla said that former Governor of Manipur and Nagaland and former CBI Director Ashwini Kumar have been found hanging at his residence. It is being told that he has also left a suicide note.

Ashwani Kumar served as the DGP of Himachal Pradesh from August 2006 to July 2008. After this, he was appointed the Chief of the CBI. Ashwini Kumar held this post from 2 August 2008 to 30 November 2010.

After this he was appointed as the Governor of Manipur. Ashwini Kumar held this post from July 2013 to December 2013.

Kumar did his Ph.D. in management and has a master’s degree in business administration with specialisation in human resources management.An IPS officer of Himachal Pradesh Cadre, Kumar has also served in the elite Special Protection Group dealing with the security of the Prime Minister of India.

He was presently Vice-Chancellor of a private university in Shimla.
