Film shooting resumed in maharashtra

As the Film shooting resumed in Maharashtra's Non-containment zones, the cultural affairs department recalls guidelines by the government. The state government issued a 16 page long set of guidelines for the producers to follow as they undergo the film and television production. Here is everything it says:

  • Ambulance, doctors, and medical staff is a mandatory inclusion on the set, and one medical personal will regularly keep a check on the temperature of the cast and crew.
  • Any pregnant employee or an employee whose spouse is expecting will not be allowed on the set.
  • Open calls to arrive at the set should be avoided and a set Time frame should be issued for everyone to arrive.
  • Casting directs are encouraged to hold auditions digitally instead of providing hard copies of scripts and if that's the case, then the copy should be disposed off after every reading.
  • When casting for families, actors’ real family members should be considered so that physical contact remains within a given set of people
  • Shooting should be taking place in a locked-down area and basic norms such as 6 feet distance, masks, and sanitization should be followed.
  • No elaborate sequences like marriage, market or fight are permitted
  • While all trials and fittings would be at the actor’s residence, look tests should take place on video calls.
  • Junior artists should be minimized.

While the entertainment industry has welcomed these guidelines among others, as they are a big relief for the people employed but the rule specifically not allowing the actors above 65 and below 10 will not be allowed on set. This brings tension among the artist with industry as the only source of employment.

Not just that, senior actors can not be replaced on sets, artists who are above 67 play major roles such as actors and even directors.

Avtar Gill who is an actor and director call out on how just like Amitabh Bacchan, If he is playing lead can not be replaced, same goes with actors like Raza Murad, Anupam Kher, Kirron Kher, Paresh Rawal, Ranjit, Prem Chopra, Dalip Tahil, Farida Jalaal... there are so many big names and its not possible. According to him, there is a requirement of the fitness profile of certain actors.

we are yet to see how the industry tackles the new normal and the issues that come with it.
