A glacier in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand burst. The glacier has burst at Reni village in the Joshimath area of Chamoli district, massive flood in the Dhauliganga river in Reni village.
A flood alert has been issued after several embankments of the river were broken. This is expected to damage the Rishiganga project.

According to PTI, 150 workers working in this power project are missing. The Dhauliganga river has been flooded due to the breaking of a glacier in Joshimath of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand. Due to this, there is a possibility of flooding of the surrounding villages. People are being evacuated from nearby villages.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has left for the incident site. He has tweeted and urged not to heed the rumor and not share the old video.
He wrote in another tweet that it is likely to damage the Rishiganga project.

He wrote that there is a possibility of flooding in the lower areas of Alaknanda due to sudden water flow in the river. People have been alerted in coastal areas. People settled on the banks of the river are being removed from the area.
A disaster has been reported from Chamoli district. The district administration, police and disaster management departments have been directed to deal with the situation. Do not pay attention to any kind of rumours. Govt is taking all necessary steps, said Uttarakhand CM TS Rawat.

News agency ANI quoted ITBP as saying that a huge flood has been seen near Reni village in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand which has broken many banks of rivers and homes. ITBP jawans have been sent to help the people. Relief work is going on in Reni village near Joshimath.
The ANI, quoting Chamoli police, wrote that "The Rishiganga power project has been damaged due to the breaking of a glacier in the Tapovan area. People living along the banks of the Alaknanda River have been advised to move to safer places as soon as possible."

Additional District Magistrate Tehri Shivcharan Dwivedi informed that an alert has been issued in the district after receiving information of flood in Dhauli river.
However All police stations and river banks have been instructed to remain vigilant. An alert has also been issued in Rishikesh. Boat operation and rafting operators have been instructed to remove from the river immediately.
