Farmers protest: some farmers organizations in favour of government's proposal

Farmers' organizations on Thursday rejected the central government's proposal to suspend agricultural laws for 18 months and form a joint committee to listen to the problems of farmers.

However, the Indian Express quoted newspaper sources as saying that more than a dozen of Punjab's 32 agricultural organizations were in favor of the proposal, but a majority of votes were cast in favor of the proposal being scrapped.

The Central Government had proposed this proposal to the representatives of the farmers on Wednesday and today on Friday the representatives of the farmers and the central government are going to negotiate. This will be the 11th round of talks between the two sides.

United Kisan Morcha had issued a statement on Thursday, it was said that the farmers demand the complete repeal of the three agricultural laws and they will not go back without cancelling it.

In this statement, there was a reference to the conversation with the Delhi Police officials regarding the tractor rally. Farmers are planning to organize a tractor rally on Republic Day on 26 January, in which the statement said that the farmers will take out a tractor rally and it will be only on Outer Ring Road in Delhi.

Delhi Police proposes that farmers can take out a tractor rally on either the Singhu or Tikari border or on the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressway. However, farmer organizations say that they will not take their rally on Rajpath and will keep themselves confined to the Outer Ring Road only.

The farmers plan to take a tractor rally on the outer ring road for a distance of 16–17 km.
