Extension of withdrawal of foreign troops unacceptable: Taliban

Ground Report | New Delhi: Extension of withdrawal; Afghan Taliban chief Zabihullah Mujahid has called on the United States and other foreign forces to focus on the withdrawal and complete it by the August 31 deadline. During a press conference in Kabul on Tuesday, Zabihullah Mujahid said: "No extension of this deadline will be accepted."

"They (the Americans) have planes, they have airports, they have to get their citizens and contractors out of here," he said. It should be noted that US President Joe Biden had said on Sunday that the withdrawal would be "difficult and painful" and much could go against expectations. According to the president, US forces can stay in the country even after the August 31 deadline until the withdrawal is completed.

During a press conference, Zabihullah Mujahid said, "The Americans are taking Afghan experts and skilled people out of the country. We have asked them to stop this process." At the same time, he assured security and peace, telling Afghans not to leave the country, but that foreigners could go if they wanted to.

During the press conference, Zabihullah Mujahid said: "We want the process of government formation to be completed soon. We are holding consultations to improve the system." He said that there had been no incident of disorder in Afghanistan in recent days and hoped that the Panjshir issue would be resolved through dialogue.

Extension of withdrawal

It should be noted that the Taliban do not currently control Panjshir province, which is considered the stronghold of the Northern Alliance. Ahmed Masood, the son of Ahmad Shah Masood, who fought against the former Soviet Union and the Taliban, has declared resistance here, while former Vice President Amrullah Saleh has also taken refuge here.
