Kashmir’s top private schools busy in ‘dummy admission scandal’

Several top most private schools of Srinagar city are reportedly engaged in a major attendance scam, in which many students of these schools, who are preparing for entrance examinations, are attending regular private coaching classes whole day and some of the students are attending classes in Jaipur Kota but their attendance is marked as regular at these schools.

Sources confirmed Ground reports many students of 11th and 12th class, most of who come from influential families, have taken admission in some top private schools of Srinagar city, never attend schools. Adding that there attendance is fraudulently marked as present by the school teachers

Sources added that majority of the parents are not hesitant in spending extra bucks for not sending their wards to attend Classes X and XII regularly and are securing them admissions in private coaching centres to make them prepare for competitive exams in different streams, Though many of these students, who are attending coaching classes, have taken a break from regular studies and have been preparing for competitive examinations such as NEET and other professional courses but a big chunk among these students are those, who are actually the students or some private or government schools.

Sources divulged that even in some districts also, the vans of private coaching centres took students in the morning and board off in the evening but their attendance has been going on in some private or government schools.

They added that there are also many students used to prefer government schools for dummy admissions as there was least strictness in the schools but now the private schools have started the practice.

A visit to a few Tuition centres in Srinagar city during the school time was enough to know the ever-increasing popularity of dummy admissions.

Though the parents who were waiting outside Tuition centres for their children did not reveal anything about the schools where they got their children admitted, they had no hesitation in accepting that they had secured dummy admission in private schools.

Wished not to mention name, a mother of an aspirant, said “Till Class IX, my son was studying in a school nearby our home but I was very particular about his future. One of my friends told me about a private school which allows dummy admissions but with extra charges. I admitted my son there and at the same time, he also took admission in a private coaching centre for engineering exams”.

Parents said “The schools give relaxation to our children in their class attendance and they prepare for medical and engineering entrance exams by joining private coaching centres who charge in lakhs. But the parents are happy to pay that surplus amount just to ensure that their children attend coaching classes for competitive exams more than the school classes.”

Sources added “The management of these private schools charge money from the students who desire to take dummy admission, and without providing any service, they simply give them full attendance, making them eligible to appear in annual examination” making them eligible to appear in annual examination”.

A teacher working in a city school said, “These students take dummy admission so that they can devote their whole time to coaching classes in private coaching institutes of different parts of India. Their first preference is competitive examination and these students easily qualify the board examination, even without attending classes.”

He said many such students could be found in the private coaching centres of Jammu city during morning hours. “When the schools started working, these students are in coaching institutes getting coaching”, the teacher said, adding that if the Education department conducts raids on these private coaching centres, the entire scandal could be exposed.

Director School education Kashmir Mohammad Younis Malik Speaking to Ground Report said that “I will send my team to check all the location and ensure u that action will be taken against these schools”.
