Dilip Kumar: The radiant star finally came out

He has made about 60 films in his film career for more than five decades, all of which were excellent in terms of film art, music, story and acting.

After living a long life of 98 years, fans were saddened when Rasik passed away on Wednesday. Many will remember the scenes and dialogues recorded by Dilip Kumar as a screen presence. But after his departure, a long cycle has come to an end, a historical and all-encompassing tradition has come to an end, the qualities of a multi-faceted personality have begun to pass before us, and there are many memories scattered in our hearts and minds.

Wednesday's terrible morning was the last morning of Dilip Kumar's life. Eyes that saw with their own eyes on the cinematic screen and showing personality went through us. The news of his death triggered a flood of reactions. Everyone began to share their memories related to him. Lata Mangeshkar, Amitabh Bachchan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind, all the celebrities in the film and political world called his demise the end of the era.

His 1951 film Tarana is seldom remembered, but in that era, love stories were brought to the screen in an exciting way and the role played by Dilip Saheb should definitely be remembered by cinema lovers. A boy from a rich family travels by plane and suddenly his plane crashes and he falls in a remote village, where he meets a girl who grew up in a rural environment and they both fall in love. Despite the class struggle and the brutal gap and inequality between the rich and the poor, the conservative ideology that had infiltrated the society was hurt, and to play a role at that time was a revolutionary step.

Similarly, Amar, directed by Mehboob Khan in 1954, seriously considered a sensitive and important issue like rape and commented on social issues. The 1957 film 'Naya Daur' broke the concept of development and its discussion. In this film, Dilip Kumar plays a boy from a rural area who spends his life walking on one leg. Only then does the battle of Tinga against motorism begin, and the sensitivity and passion with which the story of the collective struggle of the people is told can only be narrated by a person like Dilip Saheb. Mughal-e-Azam is one of the best Indian films of all time. The dialogue of this film and the acting of Dilip Saheb strengthened his place in the hearts of the people as an actor.

What is special is that Dilip Kumar and Madhubala were not talking to each other during the shooting of Mughal-e-Azam. But watching this movie, you will not feel anywhere that something like this is going on between the two of them. Importantly, Dilip Kumar and Madhubala loved each other very much in real life.

The glowing voice on the cinematic screen, the social questions raised in the film like Leader, the changing gestures, the image that seems like a legend of acting while alive, now this personality is gone from us. Dilip Saheb is such a big character in Indian cinema that Amitabh Bachchan used to say, "The name Dilip Kumar will always be remembered whenever the history of Indian cinema is written."

Referring to his childhood days in the autobiography 'Dilip Kumar - Vajud aur Parchai', Dilip Kumar says that a fakir once told his grandmother about him that this little boy was not a normal child.

He says, ‘The fakir told my grandmother that this child was made to reach a very famous and extraordinary height. Take good care of this boy, keep him out of the sight of the world, if you save him from the evil eye, this boy will be beautiful even in old age. The beauty seen by his fans in the 50's was still reflected on Dilip Kumar's face.

One of the things that comes out of Dilip Kumar's films, his interviews, is the explanation of his language. He was fluent in Hindi, Urdu and English. Saira Bano, his wife and Dilip Kumar, a well-known actress of his time, says, 'Whether it's English or Urdu, he has a great grasp of words and language and I have no doubt about it. Banu says, “Some of his many fans know that Dilip Kumar was a good reader and his reading was very good. He loved novels, plays, or characters, as well as classical literature. His favorite authors were Fyodor Dostoevsky, Tennyson Williams, and Joseph Conrad. Dilip Saheb also loves art, classical music and dance. He is also seen in many of his films.

Raj Kapoor, Devanand, and Dilip Kumar were the biggest actors in Indian cinema in the '50s. All three were the best actors of their time. But the style of acting that Dilip Saheb brought to the screen made a big difference in Indian cinema. It is technically called Method Acting. Method Acting invented his own wonderful acting style. Bano says that Dilip Saheb used to work in only one film at a time.

Dilip Kumar says in his autobiography, 'Other actors were doing two or three films at a time. I have decided that I will only do one film at a time. I just believe in the story on my chosen subject and the hard work I put in for that role. It is because, in his film journey of more than five decades, he made only 60 films.

Yusuf Khan who later became Dilip Kumar was born in 1922 in Peshawar in what is now Pakistan Quisa Khawani Bazaar. The Directorate of Archeology and Museums of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has taken possession of the ancestral houses of Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor, which will soon be converted into a museum. Dilip Kumar's father was a fruit trader in Mumbai and in the early days he was also involved in his family work. But after some time he started working in British Army Club Poona. There he took permission to set up a fruit and sandwich stall. Which led to his growing ties with the British authorities. Meanwhile, one day he supported India's freedom struggle and was subsequently arrested. After this he returned to his father's business.

Meet Devika Rani and change her identity- One day he met Bombay Talkies Film Production Devika Rani Devika Rani was a famous actress of that time. Devika Rani offered him a role in the film, which Dilip Kumar accepted.

Meanwhile, Devika Rani proposed to Yusuf Khan to change her name, which surprised her. Dilip Kumar mentions this in detail in her autobiography. Devika Rani suggested him the name Dilip Kumar, which she accepted after some thought and since then everyone has known him as Dilip Kumar.

Yusuf Khan is not the only one in the Indian cinema world who has changed his name, but there are big actors involved in doing so. Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Ashok Kumar, Devanand, Guru Dutt, Dharmendra, Johnny Walker, Rajinikanth, Rajesh Khanna, There are names like Sunil Dutt, Akshay Kumar. Dilip Kumar's first film 'Jagavar Bhata' came out in 1944, but it did not do well at the Banks office. He was only 22 at the time. Devika Rani recognized his potential and gave Dilip Kumar another chance.

After some initial setbacks, the film 'Junoon' was a success in 1947, starring Noor Jahan as Dilip Kumar. This was followed by his successful films Shaheed and Mela in 1948. Then came Mehboob Khan's 1949 film Guess which also starred Raj Kapoor and Nargis. (Dilip Kumar: The radiant star)

After 1950, Dilip Kumar made more than one film. These include Tarana, Sangdil, Amar, Insaniyat, Naya Daur, Yehudi, Madhumati, Paigam, Aan, Mughal-e-Azam, Kohinoor, Azad, Leader, Dag, Gopi, Ram and Shyam. These movies established him in Indian cinema as the Tragedy King.

Dilip Kumar made films with Madhubala and Vaijayanti Mala. In Madhula with Amar, Mughal-e-Azam, Tarana, he did more and more films with Vajyanti Mala. It includes great films like Naya Daur, Madhumati, Ganga Jamuna, Sangharsh, Paigam, Leader, Devdas.

The music was amazing in Dilip Saheb's films too. The change in acting and focus on music not only changed the cinema but also created a large segment of the audience who appreciated the change.

Dilip Saheb's role was great but the music of those films was also amazing. If you look at the film Ann in 1952, Nimmi and Nadira worked with Dilip Kumar. The music of this film is composed by Naushad Saheb. The song 'Dil Mein Chupkar Pyaar Ka Toofan Le Chale' is still popular today.
