Did Baba Ramdev lie again? No traditional medicine cleared for COVID-19, says WHO
Coronil done business of Rs 500 crore in the last seven months

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved company claimed that his coronil (formerly an immunity booster for the corona) received a Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP) from the AYUSH section of the Central Pharmaceutical Standards Control Organization under the certification scheme of WHO.

On the other hand, the World Health Organization (WHO) has clarified that it has neither reviewed nor given authenticity to any traditional medicine for the treatment of corona virus.

Ramdev's Pantjali said on Friday that his coronil tablet has received a certificate from the Ministry of AYUSH as an adjunct drug in the treatment of covid-19.

The company's tablet has got the certification under the certification scheme of the World Health Organization (WHO). Patanjali also released research work in support of the effect of coronil useful in covid-19 treatment. The Union Ministry of AYUSH had earlier recognized it as a mere 'immune boosting' drug.

Ramdev said in that press conference that the ministry has now recognized coronil tablets as a 'helpful remedy in treating covid-19' based on available data.

He said, "Studies on the effect of coronil on covid have been published in many leading journals… It will not only work in the treatment of covid but will also help in its prevention and cure and its subsequent effect."

He claimed that it was the first company in India to get such a license. Patanjali announced to get a certificate from the Ministry of AYUSH for coronil in the presence of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Patanjali said in a statement, "Coronil has received a Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP) under the WHO certification scheme from the AYUSH section of the Central Drug Standards Control Organization."

The statement claimed that coronil can now be exported to 158 countries under the COPP. Patanjali introduced Ayurveda-based coronil on 23 June last year, when the epidemic was at its peak.
