Alarming rise in Covid wave in Delhi: 17282 cases in a day, 104 dead

Covid wave in Delhi: Breaking all the previous records, the Covid case trajectory got much steeper in Delhi on Wedensday with city recording 17,282 cases in last 24 hours and deaths of 104 patients during this period.

The positivity rate of the national capital has also shot off to 15.92% raising concern about shortage of beds and ICU beds in coming days. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called for an emergency meeting with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal at 11am on Thursday followed by a meeting with health minister Satyender Jain, chief secretary and other senior health department officials over the rising Covid-19 cases in the national capital.

As on wednesday, 93% of the ICU beds with ventilators had already been occupied by the Covid patients. The Delhi government’s statistics shows that 1097 of 1,178 ICU beds with ventilators were occupied and only 81 were vacant. In case of ICU beds without the ventilator facilities, the occupancy stood at 82% with 1751 out of 2134 beds being occupied.

The Delhi government has started attaching hotels and banquet halls with hospitals to create additional beds for treating Covid patients.
