New Delhi: Delhi has recorded more than 24,000 Covid cases in last 24 hours, Chief Minister Arvind Krjriwal informed on Saturday. The figure is almost three times higher than the Covid peak which was registered during the first wave of coronavirus cases in city during 2020.

Delhi's postivity rate is now around 24% with every fourth person being tested turning out to be Covid positive. Kejriwal said that the available Covid beds fast filling up and Delhi is seeing a shortage of oxygen as well as medicines like toclizumaub and remdesivir.

He added that the government is trying to increase the number of oxygen beds and additional 1300 oxygen beds will be set up Yamuna sports complex and commonwealth games village. Kejriwal admitted that the ongoing wave is much deadlier than ever and very health system has a shelf life.

He appealed the central government to reserve 50% of beds in central hospitals like AIIMS for Covid patients. The central government hospitals in Delhi have around 11,000 beds. Kejriwal said that he has spoken with union health minister Harshvardhan about the bed and essential medicine shortage. "We have also requested the central government to increase oxygen supply in Delhi as we are seeing oxygen shortage in some private hospitals," he added.

CM said that strict action will be taken against hospitals which show availability of beds on Delhi Corona app but deny admission to patients. He added that official teams will also be raiding hoarders of essential drugs.
