Ground Report | New Delhi: Deaf and mute person sterilized; In Etah district of Uttar Pradesh, a 40-year-old deaf and mute man was brought to the district hospital by an ASHA worker on the pretext of getting the Covid vaccine. Here the man was sterilized. In a state of unconsciousness, ASHA dropped the man at his house.

The family reached the district hospital on Sunday with the man in critical condition. From where he was referred to Agra. The brother of the youth has demanded legal action by giving a complaint against the ASHA worker in the police station Awagarh.

According to a report in Times of India, later the ASHA worker dropped the 100 percent, disabled person, in the middle of the house. After returning home the man fainted. He was immediately taken to the district hospital from where he was referred to SN Medical College, Agra. The victim has been identified as Dhruv Kumar.

Accused ASHA worker Neelam Kumari took Dhruv to the hospital and sterilized her allegedly to fulfill her goal. Quoting sources, the report said that the district health department had given targets to each block ahead of World Population Day on July 11.

Sterilization of unmarried man cannot be done

An incentive of Rs 4,000 is also given to ASHA workers to promote sterilization. “My wife and I are not literate and hence we do not know the procedure for COVID vaccination. ASHA worker came to our house on Sunday and asked permission to take Dhruv for COVID jab".

Worker Neelam Kumari told us that our family will do if he goes with her for vaccination, she gets Rs 3,000. Neelam also asked for Dhruv's Aadhaar and bank passbook to avail the scheme. She took my brother and dropped him home," the report quoted Dhruv's brother Ashok Kumar as saying.

A doctor on emergency duty said that sterilization of an unmarried man cannot be done. Meanwhile, Etah medical officer said that the entire matter is being probed after an unmarried person was brought for sterilization by an ASHA worker.
