DDC election results: First win for BJP from Srinagar

In Jammu and Kashmir, the counting of elections for the 280 seats of the District Development Council (JK DDC Results) is being done.

Counting of DDC Elections; First Win in National Conference Account

In Jammu and Kashmir, the counting of elections for the 280 seats of the District Development Council (JK DDC Results) is being done. This time there is a tough fight between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Gupkar alliance of Kashmir parties. State Election Commission officials said that a total of 2178 candidates, including more than 450 women candidates, are in the fray in these elections held in eight phases in the union territory.

The first phase of voting was held on 28 November and the eighth and final phase was held on 19 December. In all, 51 percent of the 57 lakh eligible voters exercised their franchise in these elections which were conducted in a peaceful manner.

A day before the counting of votes, at least 20 political leaders have been detained as a precautionary measure. These leaders also include three senior officials of the People's Democratic Party. The PDP president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has criticized the Modi government for detaining its party leaders. Mehbooba Mufti has alleged that BJP can tamper with the election results in this way.

According to Jammu and Kashmir State Election Authority, out of 140 constituencies in Jammu division: BJP on 24 seats, Congress on 4 seats, National Conference on 7, its party on 2, Independents on 3 and Panthers Party on one seat.
