Ground Report | New Delhi: Dalit youth murdered; A Dalit youth was murdered in Bihar's Nalanda district for allegedly demanding 10 kg of rice, The Telegraph reported. Upendra Ravidas, 25, a resident of Kundali village in Patna district, was missing since Sunday evening. According to reports, Ravidas was beaten up, tied with bricks, and thrown into a stream. The body was taken out on Monday morning at Bahadurpur, about 25 km away.

Dinesh Mahto, the main accused of village Bahadurpur, is hiding. Dalit laborer Ravidas and his brother-in-law Sikandar used to work on Dinesh Mahato's farm on giving 10 kg of rice as wages. Sikandar said that he was asked to come after a few days, but he reached Mahto's house when attacked.

Sikandar escaped in the attack. "I ran to save my life. Upendra was badly hit and could not escape. I could see Dinesh and his men kicking and hitting them with sticks,” Sikandar told reporters. "I went to the local Chandi police station so that the officers could rescue him."

Police officials said the two went to Bahadurpur on Sunday evening and asked Mahto to pay his wages. Mahto and his associates started abusing and attacked them with sticks when they protested. Sikandar managed to escape but Upendra could not escape.

“The locals later saw his body in a drain outside Bahadurpur. We brought it out,” Chandy station house officer Rituraj Kumar said. “His hands and feet were tied with ropes. The body was tied with bricks so that it remains at the bottom of the drain, which is in spate these days. But somehow it floated to the surface."

Kumar said the body has been sent for post-mortem and an FIR has been registered. Three people have been taken into custody for questioning.
