Cyclone: Mumbai airport closed after alert, army deployed

Meteorological Department has warned that the storm moving towards Gujarat

Ground report | New Delhi: Due to cyclonic storms, heavy rains are raining in Karnataka, Kerala and Goa with strong wind. Mumbai airport has been closed from 11 am to 2 pm on Monday due to cyclone alert.

The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that the storm moving towards Gujarat can be 'very severe' and may cause great devastation.

According to the Meteorological Department, it will hit Porbandar and Mahuva in Gujarat due to which strong winds will blow in the state. The Tokte storm will reach Gujarat by Monday evening and cross it by Tuesday morning.

Sensing the threat of storm, about one and a half lakh people are being transported to safe places from the coastal areas of Gujarat. Apart from this, 54 teams of NDRF and SDRF were deployed in the state on Sunday as a precautionary measure.

The government has asked hospitals in the storm-affected states to make arrangements for power backup, medical oxygen and other essentials to continue treatment of corona patients during this period.

During this time, the armed forces have also been kept ready for emergency. Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the preparations to deal with the storm on Sunday.

Some important things related to Cyclone Interruptions-

• Fishing has been banned on the coasts of East-Central and South-East Arabian Sea, Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra.
• The Indian Air Force has kept 16 transport aircraft and 18 helicopters ready to face any situation arising out of the cyclone.The Indian Navy said on Saturday that it has helped in flood-affected villages of Malaghapadi, Companypadi and Maruvakkad of Chellanam panchayat in Kochi, Kerala. 
• NDRF officials had said on Friday that they were fully prepared to deal with the cyclone Tokte. Their 53 teams are ready for this. NDRF officials had said that 24 teams have already been deployed and 29 teams have been placed on standby. The five most affected states are on standby in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra for help.
