Ground Report | New Delhi: Cyclone alert in Odisha; Keeping in mind the forecast of the Meteorological Department regarding cyclonic storms in the Bay of Bengal, the coastal state of Odisha has put seven districts on high alert. The Meteorological Department has forecast that this cyclonic storm can move through the southern areas of Odisha towards the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh.

News agency PTI quoted Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena as saying that the government has sent rescue teams to the dangerous areas. Along with this, the administration has also been instructed to send people from low-lying areas to safer places.

42 teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force, 24 squads of National Disaster Response Force, besides fire department personnel have also been sent to seven districts of Odisha namely Gajapati, Ganjam, Raigad, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Kandhamal.

NDRF has issued a statement saying that 13 teams have been deployed in Odisha and 5 teams in Andhra Pradesh in view of cyclone alert in southern Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh. PK Jena said that Ganjam is likely to be the most affected. 15 rescue teams have been deployed there.

The IMD had said earlier in the day that a depression over the northeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a deep depression and said it may further concentrate into a cyclonic storm and move towards Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. may increase. The deep depression was centered 510 km east-southeast of Gopalpur and 590 km east of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh early Saturday.

It is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours. It is likely to move almost westwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur around Kalingapatnam by 26 September evening.

Under its influence, meteorologists said that light to moderate rain is likely at most places with isolated heavy falls at isolated places over Odisha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Saturday.
