Cyber-Attack on Air India: All you need to know

Ground Report | New Delhi: India's state-run airline company Air India has said that there has been a cyber-attack on its data-servers. The company says that the data of about 4.5 million customers worldwide has been affected by this cyber-attack.

The company was first to know about such an attack in the month of February. Due to this, information related to passports, tickets and even credit cards and data cards of consumers have been affected.

We hereby address to you a personal communication of this data security incident. The breach involved some personal data registered between 26th August 2011 and 20th February 2021 with details that included name, date of birth, contact information, passport information, ticket information, frequent flyer data and also credit cards data,” it said.

However, the company has said that they do not have CVV / CVC numbers of credit cards, so the risk is less. So far it has not been clearly known who was behind this attack.

Star Alliance Network member airline said that all information registered in this cyber-attack between 26 August 2011 to 20 February 2021 is included.

The company has asked all its customers to change the passwords of their accounts on its website.

Last year, British Airways was fined £ 20 million for a data breach. At that time (in the year 2018) personal and credit card related information of more than four lakh customers was affected.

Also last year, EasyJet admitted that in a cyber attack nearly ninety million customers' email addresses and travel details were stolen.
