Ground Report | New Delhi: Crime against women increased in Bengal; The latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), there has been a decrease in crimes against women in the country in the year 2020 as compared to the year 2019. A total of 3,71,503 cases of crime against women were registered in the year 2020, while in the year 2019, 4,05,326 cases were registered. This means that there has been a decline of 8.3% in the cases of crime against women.

According to the report released on September 14, majority of the cases were registered under 'cruelty by husband or his relatives' (30.0%), followed by 'assault with intent to outrage modesty of women' (23.0%), 'kidnapping' A case was registered under ' (16.8%) and 'rape' (7.5%) have been registered.

Crime against women increased in Bengal

West Bengal and Odisha saw the highest increase in crimes against women in 2020 as compared to 2019. At the same time, there has been a decrease in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. In the year 2019, 13,395 cases were registered in Delhi which decreased to 10,093 in 2020.

At the same time, according to the data, Uttar Pradesh is one of the states showing the fastest decline in the case of crime against women. In 2019, 59,853 cases were registered here which decreased to 49,385 in 2020.

The report also said that there has been a decrease in the cases registered under crime, theft, burglary, dacoity and dacoity against women, children and senior citizens, during the first wave of corona epidemic in the country and the lockdown was imposed. Happened.

Decrease in crime in Delhi, increase in Uttar Pradesh

Crime in Delhi has decreased by 16% in 2020 as compared to 2019. However, in 2019, the capital recorded an increase of almost 20% in crime as compared to 2018. A total of 2,49,192 cases were registered in Delhi under various sections. In the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in 2020, a steep decline of 50,283 as compared to 2019, in 2018, the total IPC cases in Delhi were 2,49,012.

There has been a decrease in crimes like murder and kidnapping and crimes against women in Delhi in 2020 as compared to 2019. There has been a 9% decline in murder cases in 2020 as compared to 2019.

Meanwhile, crime cases have been on the rise in UP since 2018, which is in stark contrast to the recent statements of the state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. A total of 3,42,355 cases were registered under various sections of IPC in the year 2018, which increased to 3,53,131 in 2019 and 3,55,110 in 2020.

9.4% increase in crime against scheduled castes

A total of 50,291 cases of crimes against Scheduled Castes (SCs) were registered, showing an increase of 9.4% as compared to 2019 (45,961 cases).
