Respect cows and protect them: HC

The court further said in its remarks that cows should not be looked at only from a religious point of view. It is the duty of every countryman to respect the cows and protect them. The Allahabad High Court made this suggestion while hearing the bail application of a person named Javed, arrested under the Cow Slaughter Act.

The bail plea was filed by Javed, he was charged under sections 3, 5, and 8 of the Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act. While refusing to grant bail to the petitioner, the court said that India is the only country in the whole world where people of different religions live, who can worship differently but have the same thinking for the country.

The court said, 'In such a situation, when everyone takes a step forward to unite India and support its faith, then some people whose faith and belief are not at all in the interest of the country, they can talk like this in the country. Doing this only weakens the country. In view of the above circumstances, prima facie the offense against the applicant is proved. The court refused to grant bail to Javed saying that if the bail is granted, it may 'spoil' the harmony of the society at large.
