Organizers of Mahakumbh held in Haridwar have said that at least 91 lakh people attended this year's Maha Kumbh.

On Thursday, organizer, Kumbh Mela Force has said that between January 14 and April 27, 91 lakh people have taken bath in the Ganges.

Nearly six million of these reached the Ganges for bathing in April when the country was reeling from the outbreak of the second wave of the Corona epidemic.

On 12 April, on the occasion of Somavati Amavasya, there was a gathering of 35 lakh people, whereas earlier on March 11, 32 lakh people had reached Ganga for bathing on the day of Mahashivratri. On April 14, 1.3 million people arrived for the second royal bath.

The Kumbh Mela was severely criticized for the large gathering of people amid Corona's growing cases and for not following the restrictions imposed for covid-19 among the crowd.

At least one hundred sadhus and fair officials attending the Kumbh Mela have been infected, while four have died.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 17 had appealed to sadhus to observe the remaining duration of the Kumbh only in a “symbolic" manner. Following this different ‘akhadas’ had agreed to keep their participation symbolic.

Maha Kumbh, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, citing the spike in the number of coronavirus cases. Many spots wore a deserted look on Tuesday at the Kumbh which will formally close only on April 30.
