Couples at OYO rooms secretly filmed; four arrested

Four men were arrested by Gautam Buddh Nagar police for their alleged involvement in placing hidden cameras in OYO rooms to blackmail couples and running illegal call centers.

The police identified the arrested accused as Vishnu Singh, Abdul Wahav, Pankaj Kumar and Anurag Kumar and claimed to have arrested three different gangs in Noida.

“Vishnu and Abdul Wahav, the accused, used to send videos of intimate moments to the couple's phone and demand money, threatening to post the videos online if their demands were not met. Pankaj, the third accused, used to provide registered SIM cards and accounts in other people's names in exchange for extortion money," senior police officer Saad Mian Khan explained about the gang's strategy.

According to police, members of the group allegedly booked rooms at OYO hotels and installed hidden cameras in the rooms before leaving. They came back after a few days and took the cameras. According to police, they then contacted the targeted couple.

Vishnu Singh, Abdul Wahav, Pankaj Kumar and Anurag Kumar Singh are said to be members of three different gangs operating in Noida. These organizations engaged in various illegal activities including unauthorized call centers and supplying fake SIM cards for illegal purposes.

Eleven laptops, 21 mobile phones and 22 ATM cards were among the items seized during the raid, according to police, who added that the gang is said to have operations across the country.

One of the gang members has escaped and efforts are being made to arrest him.

ADCP (Central Noida) Saad Miya Khan said, “We had information that a person had recently stayed in a room with her friend, and a few days later, a video of their private moment was sent to her along with demands for money.

he further said "the accused had booked the same room a few days earlier and installed the camera. Every time a couple was seen on camera, they were profiled and their intimate videos sent to their social media accounts and phones.”

A case has been filed at Noida Phase 3 Police Station under IPC Sections 420 (cheating) 386 (extortion for fear of death/serious injury) and 506 (criminal intimidation). Police also seized eleven laptops, seven CPUs, 21 mobile phones, 22 ATM cards and other computer paraphernalia.
