This has been revealed by the British newspaper 'The Times. 

According to the newspaper, a quarter of homes in Turkmenistan have access to the Internet, but the government has banned many websites, including popular websites such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. However, many citizens use VPNs to avoid government restrictions on these websites.

A Turkmen resident told US-based Radio Azatlik: "Last year I applied for internet at home. My turn came a year and a half later. I had to sign a lot of papers. Now they are saying that I swear on the Qur'an that I will not use VPN, but no website opens without a VPN. I don't know what to do. '

 Turkmenistan is one of the few countries in the world where the Internet is severely restricted. Reporters Sans Frontieres, an organization working on press freedom, calls Turkmen media the most binding media in the world after North Korea. In addition to China, Iran, and North Korea, Turkmenistan is one of four countries in the world where popular social media is completely banned, according to a website called ComperiTech.com.

Turkmenistan is facing a severe population decline, according to a report by Radio Free Europe. The government claims the country's population is over 6 million, but three officials told RFE / RL that the country's actual population is about 2.8 million.

According to these officials, the reason for the decline in population is that a large number of people have left the country, while the birth rate is declining.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov claimed in a June 29 speech that his country was free of Covid, but eight days later Turkmenistan became the only country in the world to make vaccination mandatory for all adults. Gave President Muhammedov was elected president in 2017 with more than 97% of the vote.

The World Health Organization has also criticized Turkmenistan for failing to provide information on corona patients.
