Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced on Sunday that in view of the increase in covid-19 cases, people from all political, religious and social events in the state will stop gathering from Monday.

Addressing the people of the state through television, Thackeray also said that political movements will not be allowed for the next few days as they get quite crowded.

He said, "The epidemic is raising its head in the state, but whether it is another wave, we will know in 8 to 15 days."

He said, "Lockdown cannot be the solution of covid-19, but it is the only option to stop the cycle of viruses."

The Chief Minister said that rules related to covid have to be followed and those who violate the rules will be punished.

According to him, the mask is the only "shield" in the fight against the corona virus.

Thackeray said, "To avoid lockdown, wear masks, make discipline and follow social distancing."

Meanwhile, a lockdown is being imposed for one week in Amravati and Akola districts of Maharashtra in view of increase in the number of corona virus patients. This lockdown will continue till March 1. Important services will continue in both these places.

At the same time, the central government has advised the states facing daily increase in covid cases to extend the RTPC investigation and re-focus for strict and comprehensive monitoring as well as strict control in the respective districts.

The Health Ministry has stated that covid patients have higher weekly growth rates in Maharashtra, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Chandigarh than the national average.
