Congress will not get 300 seats in Lok Sabha elections: Ghulam Nabi Azad

Ground Report | New Delhi: Ghulam Nabi Azad on Congress; Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that in the current situation, he does not think that the Congress is going to get 300 seats in the next Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking publicly about his silence on Article 370, he said that only the Supreme Court and the central government can reinstate it. Ghulam Nabi Azad said these things while addressing a public meeting in Poonch Nagar of the Jammu division on Wednesday.

He said, "When will we have 300 MPs? That's why I cannot make this promise (reinstatement of Article 370) because for this we have to get 300 MPs in 2024. Whatever it is. God give us 300 seats but at this time I have, He is not. It seems. That's why I will not make any false promises and will not talk about Article 370."

Ghulam Nabi Azad is on a tour of Poonch and Rajouri. He recently said in Kashmir that talking about Article 370 is irrelevant. Their main demand is to give statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and to hold assembly elections at the earliest.

Earlier this week, Azad urged political parties to create such an atmosphere in the state that people believe that elections can be held and the political process can be carried out.

"I am not going into party politics right now. I am not speaking against any party as of now because there is no such atmosphere in the state where one party speaks against the other. Rather I request all the political parties to one- Instead of abusing the other, one should create such an atmosphere in the state that people here believe that elections can be held and politics can be done.

“Usually, Union Territories are upgraded to a State. But in our case, a State was downgraded to a UT. It is DGP to the rank of Thanedar (SHO), CM to MLA and Patwari to Chief Secretary. It's like being demoted. No intelligent person can do that," he said.

The central government in 2019 abrogated Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated it into two union territories. The government has said that the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir will be restored at an appropriate time.
