Comedian Raju Srivastava passes away aged 58

Comedian Raju Srivastava has died in Delhi at the age of 58, his family confirms. He was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi on August 10, 2022, after experiencing chest pain and fainting while exercising in the gym.

Srivastava’s cousin, Ashok Srivastava, had earlier confirmed that he had suffered a heart attack while exercising. “He was doing his exercise routine and while he was on the treadmill, he suddenly fell over. He suffered a heart attack and was rushed to AIIMS hospital,” Ashok told PTI.

Srivastava is considered one of the most popular comedians in India. Born into a middle-class family on December 25, 1963, in Kanpur, he began his stint in the entertainment industry in the late 1980s. However, much of his fame came when he appeared in ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, a comedy show that aired in 2005. His humour, inspired by ordinary people and their circumstances, catapulted him into a nationally recognized personality.

Raju Srivastava started his career by appearing in small roles in various movies including Maine Pyar Kiya, Baazigar, Bombay to Goa and Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya. He became a household name after participating in the comedy show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. He later also entered the third season of Bigg Boss.

Raju Srivastava performed both in India and abroad. He also did some Bollywood movies, including Rajshri Productions’ Maine Pyar Kiya and other small roles in popular movies, such as Baazigar and Bombay to Goa. He was part of Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya. He was also the current chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Film Development Council.
