CKay's 'Love Nwantiti from Nigeria

CKay's real name is Chukwuka Ekweani and he was born in Nigeria, from where he has created songs in English and his native language, Igbo, a language spoken in Nigeria by people of the ethnic group that bears the same name as their language, Igbo, and It is located mainly in the region formerly known as Biafra.

Although CKay has always been the author of the single, he had to fight to get the credit, because, according to explained the musician in Rolling Stone :

"At first I felt robbed because initially a leaked version circulated and also several creators on TikTok changed the name so it was not clear whose song it was. In certain countries, they started to like the song a lot and claimed it as their own. I appreciate the love, but I had to go to TikTok to make things clear."

CKay, one of Nigeria's musical revelations

Chukwuka Ekweani always loved music, as his father was a choir director at his local church. He approached instruments such as the piano and later discovered Fruity Loops music editing software.

Ekweani began his musical career as a member of a band, consisting of himself and two other companions. Finally, he decided to go solo and has released 3 EPs since 2017.

In 2014 he moved to Lagos, the capital of his country, where he was discovered and in 2016 he joined Warner Music Group's Chocolate City label. In an interview, he described his music as Afro-pop of the future.

International remixes 

The recent success of "Love nwantiti" is first and foremost a story of remixing. Last year CKay recorded a version with Nigerian Joeboy and Ghanaian Kuami Eugene, both of whom represent big music markets in West Africa. This remix popularized a little "Love nwantiti" and the South label - African CKAY has suddenly decided to record remixes in several languages. Arabic, Spanish, German… The version with Moroccan rapper ElGrande Toto is doing very well in the Netherlands and Germany for example. But it is in France that he meets one of his biggest successes, thanks to his remix with Franglish.
