The video was reportedly shot on January 5 at Kundikala village under Lundra police station area of the district, and surfaced on Thursday, following which senior police and administration officials visited the village and launched an investigation.
According to officials, the video appears to be the result of a dispute between residents of two villages on January 1.
In the video, people can be heard saying, “From today, we Hindus take a pledge not to buy any goods from a Muslim shopkeeper and not to sell them anything. We promise that we will not sell or lease our lands to Muslims. We Hindus take a pledge to buy from vendors coming to our villages only after ascertaining their religion. We also take a pledge not to work as laborers for them.”
He also appears to say: "We Hindus make a vow to buy from vendors who come to our villages only after ascertaining their religion, and do not buy anything from Muslims."
Anger on social media
This video has created an uproar on social media. Senior advocate Indira Jaising tweeted: "We all should take note and be aware that this is tantamount to untouchability under Article 17 of India, which is prohibited by law."

Investigation begins
Surguj Collector Sanjeev Jha told PTI on Friday that after the video surfaced, the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of the district visited the village on Thursday and inquired about the incident.
Surguja ASP Vivek Shukla said, “On January 1, a resident of Arrah village, which falls in neighboring Balrampur district, visited Kundikala to celebrate the new year, during which they had an altercation with some locals,” said Surguja. ASP Vivek Shukla said.

“The next day, a resident of Kundikala accused half a dozen villagers of Arrah (belonging to a particular community) of breaking into his house along with some others and thrashing him and two family members including his niece,” he said. said. said.
Shukla said six people were arrested based on the complaint, but all of them got bail from a local court on the same day.
He said that prima facie it appears that some people taking advantage of the incident instigated the residents of Kundikala to organize a meeting and take such a pledge against the minority community.
