Ground Report | New Delhi: Cabinet Secretary warns officers; Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba has cautioned the officials invited for the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort that it will be taken "seriously" if they do not attend the function.

In a letter sent to secretaries of all central ministries and departments, Gauba said the flag hoisting ceremony at the Red Fort on Independence Day has its own significance, and officials invited for the ceremony are expected to participate in it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also address the nation on Independence Day from the Red Fort.

“It was seen that some of the invited officials did not attend the function. This is unfair considering the great national importance of this occasion. The officers need to be clearly reminded that it is their duty to attend the Independence Day celebrations.

Gauba also said in his letter that in view of the need for social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only officers of the rank of Joint Secretary and above have been invited to the function this year.

He told the secretaries, 'You can advise all the officers of your ministry/department invited for the Independence Day celebrations to participate in the function. You can also caution them that their absence on this occasion will be taken seriously. It is known that the government has recently given a one-year extension to Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba.

Former Union Home Secretary Gauba was appointed as the country's top bureaucrat for two years in the year 2019. In an order issued late last Saturday night, it has been said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has given an extension of service to Gauba, a 1982 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Jharkhand cadre, as Cabinet Secretary for a period of one year beyond August 30. has been approved.
